The Scottish Borders are bordered by Dumfries and Galloway in the west, South Lanarkshire and West Lothian in the north west, City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian to the north and Northumberland and Cumbria in England to the south and east. The administrative centre of the area is Newtown St. Boswells. Historically, the name Scottish Borders designated the entire border region of southern Scotland and, together with neighbouring areas of England, was part of the historical Borders region.

Wherever you are in the Scottish Borders, you are always remembered by the great Scottish writer and poet Sir Walter Scott. Wether it's Abbotsford House where he lived, his grave at Dryburgh Abbey or Scotts View, Sir Walter Scotts favorite viewpoint in the Borders near Melrose, you are constantly reminded of this famous writer. The Scottish Borders however have more to offer. Take St Marys Loch, one of the finest lochs in Scotland beautifully situated between the steep hills. You can find wonderful little towns such as Peebles and Melrose or St Abbs. The lovely river Tweed runs from east to west through almost the entire county. The ruines of great Abbeys such as Dryburgh Abbey, Jedburgh Abbey and Melrose Abbey are very much worth visiting and of course the oldest inhabited house of Scotland, Traquair House near Innerleithen.
